Discovering Your Repertoire
From the Book of Process
The word repertoire has Latin origins which refers to inventory.
The comic’s equivalent is their “shtick”, the handful of jokes they are working through this season, usually related to their current predicament and gripes with the world.
A business owner’s repertoire is the combination of skills they offer people in exchange for money.
Your repertoire is your currency as a creative person.
Somewhere, either physically or mentally, there is a vast catalog of information.
Sometimes there are artefacts like finished canvases of art or published short stories.
Other times they are in fragments, ideas on-the-go and being mulled over with voice notes and scraps of paper littered around your office.
Celebrate your repertoire, go through it whenever you can, and use it for new ideas to fuel your creative energy.
