Don't Lose Hope
Creative people feel guilty when they slip behind on their goals.
This email was supposed to go out on Tuesday and Thursday morning this week.
Yet you didn’t hold your breath waiting for me to substack you.
Whenever I get back to it, you will welcome me as much as you enjoy hearing from me.
You won’t judge me, even though I am worried about you judging me.
Your Most Creative Work is waiting for you with open arms.
It doesn’t care that you are busy helping a company with a major technology project or that you were playing golf with your father this morning, something that not everyone has the luxury of getting to do.
It doesn’t care that you got distracted and went down many different rabbit holes in the past few weeks alone, forgetting about every rabbit hole you’ve gone down in the past 5-10 years.
It doesn’t care that you’re bad with money and are single, or are raising a family that has challenges.
Your Most Creative Work is a metaphor for the universe.
You can spend half a day doom scrolling the news and Instagram, but the moment you return to it, it will feel like you never skipped a beat.
You will drop right into this timeless space that some people like to call the flow state so they can market it to you as a product but it’s really just the act of returning home to where you came from, no different than the dream state or the state you existed in before you were born or after you will perish.
The Project Lab for May wrapped up last week. Every week on Tuesday the four of us got together to not only focus on our Most Creative Work for a bit, but also share what we’re thinking about.
While there are a plethora of options for coworking now, I have learned that there is still a need for containers that help us connect. To enable us to Find The Others.
To remove the isolating nature of doing the work that matters the most to us when it feels like no one is listening or paying attention.
We will return in July.
The first pod is full but I would like to launch another one. I charge $30 for the experience of meeting every week for a month. When a pod forms, we stick to the same day and time every week. No messing around and seeing how you feel this week (hint: as with sex, we’re never “in the mood” to do the work).
It’s emotionally tiring for me because I’m an introvert, but I am quickly refuelled by the inspiring nature of working with others like this. It’s one of my life’s callings aside from working on music.
It’s not for everyone so don’t feel like I’m trying to pressure you into my life insurance scheme here.
Just write me back, or if you’re reading through the newsfeed you can comment or DM me through substack.
It’s my duty to keep talking about the Project Lab, to be a broken record and not have any shame in it.
If you’ve been reading me this long it’s almost imperative that you at least try a session once before you expire.
Don’t lose hope in your Most Creative Work. Beneath the life situation of stress and work work, there is a delicious universe of words, colours and sounds waiting for you to dive right back in.
I just got excited about it again writing these words to you.
Let’s water the plants together and make something amazing.

I’m keen to join a pod. I think my creative work is about refining my new online personality/presence for my newish job.
Love your emails. They spark all kinds of joy.
Xoxo
Im an early bird but can also be a night hawk if that helps 😃
