Hit It First Thing
Twyla Tharp starts the book The Creative Habit by describing her routine of heading to the boxing gym first thing in the morning.
Andrew Huberman talks about “limbic friction” when he refers to tasks that take just a bit of extra umpf to get going on.
Eat That Frog was the name of a book by Brian Tracy that referenced Mark Twain’s take on doing the hardest thing first. If you eat a frog first thing in the day, everything else will taste good by comparison.
The common thread between these ideas:
In order to take care of business that’s been lagging behind, you have to hit it first thing in the morning.
Look or listen back to your work that you didn’t want to do the day you created it.
Write back people that you couldn’t find the words for before.
Sit your bum in the chair and write a newsletter that will share what you’re working on and thinking with people who can benefit from your work.
And yes, get outside or go for a workout because the chances of us getting it done later in the day go down by the hour.
