The Art of the Start
Creating a new outlet is exciting, yet at the same time daunting. Your idea is precious and as you show it to other people you get a sense of anxiety about whether or not your idea is good.
At this stage the goal is to wet the whistle and share your vision with your friends and supporters. Put some words on the page and get the word out. Nothing more, nothing less.
There is a catch-22 in place, because on one hand you have a lot of energy and enthusiasm, yet on the other hand you don’t have a lot of social clout.
The name of the game is to feel the fear and do it anyways. To know that the work is not in setting up profiles but in consistently showing up to do your Most Creative Work.
Why did I start this newsletter?
Many years ago I learned about the idea of split careers. People who do more than one thing. I have about three splits in my career, the first being music as my main passion, the second being marketing as the way I make a living, and the third being the study of what makes creative people successful and the habits that they design.
As you can tell, this newsletter falls into the third category.
I had tried to integrate this with my personal brand, but I just felt conflicted all the time. So it felt more comfortable to me to create a “back channel” where I can explore this topic without feeling like it’s muddling up the music that I’m working on.
What to Expect
I am committing to publishing every week, on Tuesdays, for the next year. I will experiment with different formats to make it easier for people to read and learn the content, in addition to the creation of premium courses and workshops to help you carve out the time and energy to do your most creative work.
That’s what you can expect from my end of things, but on your end I hope that we can expect a boost in your confidence as a maker, creator, artist and entrepreneur.
The voice chakra is located in the throat. This is your vehicle for channeling your energies out into the world. It may take the place of painting, filmmaking, or selling t-shirts but at the end of the day it is your voice that is the vehicle.
So expect to hone this chakra the most by engaging with my work here.
To you getting your most creative work done…
Love,
Elliott
