The ideal time to start
When should you announce your project?
When is a good time to start working where you can guarantee you won’t be distracted?
When should you reach out to this person of influence who you would like to connect with?
I am tempted to tell you that the time is now, but that’s unrealistic. Stay focused on what you were doing before you opened this email.
Now, the answer is that there is no ideal time for any of these stress-inducing tasks to take place.
It’s like asking when is the ideal time to scrub out a toilet?
But you can make it a priority to scrub that toilet out as soon as possible rather than waiting for someone to come over to visit you.
How about scrubbing the toilet on a schedule so that it never becomes such an issue that you have to rethink so often?
Here is my actionable tip on announcements and reachouts. Make friends with drafts and scheduled emails/posts.
Rather than announce something in the afternoon because you had prior commitments all morning, just write it in the afternoon and schedule it to go out the following morning.
Rather than reach out to someone new on a weekend, just write the email on the weekend and then schedule it to reach their inbox Monday or Tuesday morning.
A quick way to remember this tip is “Just Write It”. Focus on writing it (or designing it), and schedule it to go out later. Swap this in with “Just Record It”, if we’re talking video.
