Your Work is Here to Support You
Our Most Creative Work is that which is nagging us to get it done but we are afraid to do it. Welcome to the newsletter which helps unravel this idea every week.
Take a load off Fanny and listen to this post instead of having to read it:
This morning in my meditation I was hit with a wave of revelation. The idea that life is here to support you.
Some days it feels like waking up to the world is simply a burden. Everything going on here is heavy and I’m not ready to take it on.
But in this meditation, I was told differently. Every breath that I’m able to take in, every hour that I have the choice of what to work on and who I want to spend my time with, this is life and it’s here to support us in our creative goals.
The Metronome Doesn’t Care
Many musicians don’t enjoy playing music to a metronome. Nor should they, it’s kind of boring. But deep inside there is a fear that the metronome is trying to hurt them by calling out their errors.
Yet it’s just a machine invented by other humans. It’s only here to support a musician in their quest to play better and more accurately. Use it to help fix up some passages and then turn it off and move on with your session.
Taking Measurements of Your Success
By the same token, many artists might not enjoy the process of tracking how they’re doing. A Key Performance Indicator (KPI) is one way to measure your progress over a period of time (learn more in this video)
Yet if you view the KPI as something here to call out the lack of progress you’re making, it’s not going to do the intended outcome which is to simply help you reach your goals.
Similarly, social apps can take a toll on a deep-thinking and feeling person. But without the boundary to know what role it serves in your life, it’s just going to cause you a lot of pain.
I’d rather use these tools to help me get better at my craft rather than sit around scrolling and comparing myself to others.
Your Work is Here to Support and Nourish Your Soul
Every day is a new opportunity to look at your methods and put them to use. These methods are your theories on how you do your best work. This day is here to support you in your journey, no matter how challenging life can appear on the surface.
Treat your work as something that is here to support you and what your soul is asking for. It is not a burden or a curse.
