Doing the work
We don’t know exactly why we are compelled to do our Most Creative Work, yet for some reason it's always knocking on the doors of our subconscious.
You might think that you are obligated to do it out of a sense of love. For your community or for the art itself.
Yet I challenge you to think beyond this dimension. Love is complex and confusing.
Instead, do the work out of a sense of courage1.
For that basic motivation to keep showing up to the studio2 and “splashing some paint around”3 as Theresa says.
To simply not have any expectations that this will be a hit and people will love you after you finished 20 minutes of practice.
If you have a loud voice telling you that you’re moving too slowly it’s time to quiet it down and focus only on the next three hours.
Where is that little pocket of time to reconnect with your Most Creative Work?
Courage is associated with the throat chakra, the ability to speak up, but it also might start in your belly region (solar plexus).
Your studio is any spot where the work gets done. A coffee shop is just as good as an office, and for some people a couch is just as good as a desk.
I love the visual of splashing some paint around. When you write, you put some words on the page and start moving them around. Music is the art of putting down some notes and then removing what isn’t adding anything.
